In 2008 Lviv tram depot, which is situated in Sakharova str. was transformed into a real embodiment of contemporary culture. Art association "Comma" decided that as well as many other objects, Tram Park in Lviv could be a very creative and peculiar place, and thus project "Art-Depot" was decided to be presented here. During four days of May feasts visitors had got an opportunity to see the depot in yet unknown interesting light. In two Tram Park halls five installations by Lviv artists Vlod Kaufman, Myroslav Vaida, Oleksiy Khoroshko, Mykhailo Barabash and Sergiy Petliuk found there place, thus converting the depot into a temporal contemporary art centre.
- This building is an architectural monument per se, - tells Oleksiy Khoroshko. - It s situated in the centre of Lviv and is an ancient enough object. This inspired us to create such an action. The city counsil supported the idea and helped to realize it. I, presonally, presenten a video instalation on religious theme, because of its controversity. Some certain people profiteer on religion, for others it is a taboo. I put a quettion to a spectator "What do you think about religion?"
Specialy for the project Olekiy Khoroshko made a video recording in Lviv shooting gallery. On white linen there were figures of people with different faces. From time to time they were hit by shoots.
Myroslav Vaida presenteded his work "Five years of Winter". In a huge pyramid of hey he made small windown, through which one could see a floor with video installation. "This project is my childih dream. - claims the author. - Before birth a creaure enjoys s state of protectfulness, indolence, and warmth. Pictures on the bottom are made due to projector installed on the top. One in a distatn village we raised up a stack of hay, and there were a rat nest with newborn rats. I had filmed it and now have used in "Five years of winter" project. Finally there came out something like a bulb of hey with life inside. Somehow it resembles a child's life.
Another artist from Lviv, Mykhailo Barabash, and created project named "Straightening man". On tramway tracks hit installization a human figures that symbolize a developing of live.
Coordinator of Lviv gallery "Dzyga" Vlod Kaufman presented "An Everyday Routine Tour". In a saparate hall, wrapped in black polyethylene, there was a great screen on a wall with video of Lviv's underground river Poltva. A wooden wheelbarrow stood under the screen. Through the centre of Lviv flows a Poltva river, - explaines Vlod Kaufman. It is more like a sewer pipe and all sewage get there. My project is a speculation over this theme, although not a way to solve it.
Art-Depot action is over, but there are rumours that soon Lviv tram depot will become filled with art atmosphere again. Members of "Comma" confidenced that their goal was to create a museum of contemporary art in the depot.
