KURBĀSY project by the actors of the Les' Kurbas Theatre (Lviv)
A few actors of the Les' Kurbas Theatre have started to explore a song as a drama with its atmosphere, plot and meaning. The next step - experiments with the sound involving vocal improvisations and musical instruments. The main goal of the Project participants is to find methods to reveal the song as a unique substance, a living organism with its own life and drama.
The Project was launched in 2009. The first Raitse pilot album includes: the first part – ritual summer folk songs, wedding songs and ballads; the second part consists of carols, Christmas folk songs and ancient Hutsul legends.
The performance will be accompanied by art-video (Volodymyr Stetskovych, Lviv artist)
Costumes: Petro Nesterenko-Lanko, Olesya Hryn’ and Olenka Boldyreva ( Lviv Fashion Week designers)
The Vipche Kolyada 2012 Christmas Plein Air Lab - 13-15 January 2012, Vipche village, Hutsul region (Carpathians). The Vipche Plein Air Lab is a long-term artistic and cultural expeditionary Project involving open-air researches of traditional folk music, singing, dances, rituals by means of the direct dialogue with the “creators” of the authentic culture. TheVipche village is located far away from tourist tours on the slopes of the Bila Kobyla/White Mare mountin. That village is famous (except its marvelous scenery) for the Ilyuk & Vandzhurak ancient families that have managed to preserve the unique archaic Hutsul dances and rituals. The unique Plein Air Art is presented by the EthnoClub of Gatherings. This year we were the participants of traditional Christmas ritual performances and the festive party with the Illyuk family dance ensemble. Information about the summer Vipche Plein Air Lab HERE
