The Days of Performance Art in Lviv & the School of Performance and the MediaDepo Festivals of Contemporary Art

( 28 August - 4 September, 2011, Lviv)

In 2010 the Institute of Contemporary Art, an  organiser of the TYZHDEN/Week of Contemporary Art , one of the largest annual contemporary art festivals  in Ukraine came to the conclusion to change the Festival’s format at the Biennale. The  strongest reason of those changes is the large number of author’s projects to be presented at the Tyzhden’ and the period of one year is not enough to process and to present all of them at a high level. However, the Days of Performance Art in Lviv and the MediaDepo (two integral parts of the Tyzhden’)  are going to be held  annually.

Thus, from 28 August to 4 September the Days of Performance Art in Lviv & the School  of Performance and the MediaDepo will be held for the fourth time.

Days of Performance Art in Lviv & the School of Performance

- the annual festival involving meetings with artists, lectures, video screenings and, in fact,  performances themselves presented by prominent and well-known masters as well as by young and interesting  generation of performers. For the period of the Festival's duration its curators have  invited  performers from Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Israel, Austria and Switzerland.

This year the Days of Performance Art will be joined as a curator by Tamar Raban from Israel and the known Israeli performers  Ya'acov Chefetz, Beni Kori and Kineret Max will accompany her at the Festival. Besides, the Festival looks forward to the participation of the young performers from Poland - Joanna Ogrodnik, Sylvester Pyasetsky, Michal Dyakovski, the radical artists from Russia -  Alexander Shaburov and Vyacheslav Mizin (the Siniye Nosy art-group). Ukraine will be represented by  Vlodko Kaufman, Miroslaw Wajda, Volodymyr Topiy and Vasyl Bazhay.

The School of Performance (still the sole one in Ukraine) is initiated and conducted by Janusz Baldyga, the maitre of Polish performance.  He used to invite lecturers- prominent theorists of the Performance History: 2009 - Sibylle Omlin, Professor of the Basel University and the curator of  contemporary-art projects (Switzerland),  2010 - Barbara Sturm, an outstanding performer and the analyst of contemporary art (Austria)

The School's  last year subject/ theme: The Limits of Space  -  The Workmanship To Overcome Borders.

As accustomed, after the School "graduation" its participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate their own performances. The School of  Performance causes  agiotage among students of art institutions of the whole country, as the  training at School still remains the only chance to master that kind of art.   Last year the School was attended by about 40 "students" from   Lviv, Ternopil, Chernihiv, Kharkiv and Kyiv.
