If this is the case, it may make sense for you to dust off the food scale, and go back to the school of calorie counting for just 3-4 weeks, as a refresher. #2. You’re Drinking Your Calories Most of the time drinking your calories is a nasty habit, especially when those calories are nothing more than sugar. This overconsumption of sugar triggers your hunger and cravings even more. Focus only on hydrating with zero calorie natural drinks, such as water, tea, and coffee. A lot of the artificially sweetened zero calorie “diet” drinks have been shown to spike hunger. #3. You’re Eating Fattening “Health” Foods Just because a food label on the package says any of the following terms, it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily healthy: - Healthy - Natural - Low fat - Low sugar - High in fiber - High in protein Usually these processed and refined “health” foods are filled with hunger inducing chemicals and processed sugar. Next time you reach for your “healthy” yogurt, read the ingredients list and check out the sugar and fructose content. #4. You Watch Too Much TV Watching TV not only makes you snack more, you’re often not even aware of how much you’re actually eating while watching. If you are going to eat in front of the TV, always put your snack into a portion sized bowl, and stop once the bowl is empty. #5. Alcohol Is Getting The Better Of You Even if you think you’re consuming low calorie vodka and waters, when you’re consuming alcohol, you’re more than likely also snacking on party foods, such as potato chips, crackers, and dip. Also, if you’re waking up the next day hungover, more likely than not, you’re not going to hit the gym or feel like eating healthy. #6. Your Cheat Meals Are Turning Into Cheat Weeks I enjoy a weekly cheat meal, but I am also very disciplined to keep it to just that. If your cheat meals are turning into cheat weeks, it’s best for you to avoid them until you get a little more disciplined. #7. You Think You Can Out Exercise A Bad Diet The workouts you are doing are probably not burning as many calories as you think. In other words, you cannot out train a bad diet. Why else do you think so many gym rats are still overweight?
