If you are in a sport that requires agility, speed, endurance, reaction time -- if your body fat is more than 5% as a male or 10% as a female -- you are never going to reach your peak performances. The greatest runners of all times, the greatest Olympians of all time -- they all reached their peak performances when they were at their lowest body fat. Period. There are 2 ways to achieve low body fat: 1) You can calorie restrict -- where you eat less calories than you expend, so that you lose weight. And then when you get to a low body fat -- you try to eat just as many calories as you expend so you don't put the fat back on. But this is very hard to do. 2) You can eat diet comprised of all 100% raw fruits and vegetables. You can eat as much watermelon as you want, or as many oranges as you want, and your body can't store it as body fat or has a very hard time storing it as fat. I've tried both approaches. I've tried calorie restriction diets, which will make you feel miserable being hungry all the time. Calorie restriction diets work, but they suck, and they are not sustainable in my opinion. You will be mentally, emotionally and physically very aggravated. It's very hard to stop eating. And I've tried fruitarianism which has worked very very well for me. Today’s topic, losing weight and losing friends, is a highly emotional subject and I feel like that’s an understatement. I feel like that’s one of the reasons why women struggle with weight loss. It saddens my heart to think there are women out there who are — I hate to say the word malicious, because I feel like it’s just their own stuff coming up. It’s their own insecurities, but it can really feel like a malicious act when your friend encourages you to eat another piece of cake or tries to talk you out of going for a workout. Maybe she’s giving you a hard time because you losing weight doesn’t make you look as good as you did with a little extra weight on you, but the truth is that it happens. It happens way moreLosing weight and Losing friends -- Howoften than I believe it should, but it’s something we have to address and something we have to talk about. So if you’re on a weight loss journey right now or you’re getting ready to embark on one, I really want you to think about this. Think about it deeply. Imagine yourself at your ideal weight. How would people act? How would people treat you? A lot of the times we automatically go to being “thinner” equals being better, more successful, sexier, so on and so forth, but I want you to go a little deeper. I want you to do a journaling assignment. I want you to set the timer for 15 minutes and I want you to write over and over again “being healthy and fit means… being healthy and fit means…” Write this over and over. Now here’s the key — you HAVE to do it for the whole entire time, because it’s around minute 12, 13, and 14 that you will get to the deeper emotional stuff and being fearful that you might lose some friends if you lose weight might come up. Here’s what to do — you have to reevaluate people who are closest to you. The truth is, is that true friends want what’s best for you. Five years ago when I was starting my coaching business, and I was embarking on all new adventures, I was really shocked how many of my “friends” really didn’t support me and I had to have conversations with them and say, “This is where I want my life to go. This is where I see things going, and if you don’t support me in that, then we’re probably just going to have to part ways here, and we can love each other from afar.” These were not easy conversations. I was so nervous. My coach had to really talk me through them and really get me mentally prepared for both sides of the coin on if they said “Yes I support you” or “I’m just gonna go my own way,” but it’s a conversation that needs to be had. You need to surround yourself with people who will lift you higher, because if you are surrounding yourself with people who are going to judge you and bring you down, you will never lose weight for the long term, ever. You know what? You deserve to lose weight and you deserve to have amazing friends who want the best for you. If you become a millionaire, if you become a fitness model, any of those things, they need to support you whichever way your life turns. If people are popping into your mind right now, of those who aren’t those people, you either need to have a hard conversation with them, you totally need to do it. I know it’s hard, but as your coach, I’m telling you, you need to do it, or you need to really start separating back. Now eventually if you start separating, they’ll probably ask you, “Hey, what’s been going on?” and then the hard conversation is going to have to come at that point. Now, just because I believe in not just watching these videos, but actually taking action, I want you to do something with me right now.
